Ushor

Kolkata, West Bengal | July 15, 2025

This Durga Puja, as Kolkata prepares to welcome the Goddess with lights, chants, and celebration, United Sympathetic Hands of Relief (Ushor) is preparing something even more powerful — a celebration of empathy, dignity, and hope.

With the 2025 theme, “To Reach the Unreached,” Ushor is transforming Bengal’s grandest festival into a force for change — one that touches lives too often hidden in the shadows of society’s progress. From orphaned children and street dwellers to rural families and the elderly, this initiative ensures no heart is left untouched by the blessings of Maa Durga.

A Movement That Matters

Founded by a collective of young changemakers, Ushor has been quietly reshaping lives through initiatives in education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, and rural development. Durga Puja 2025 is their next step — one rooted in action, not just intention.

Here’s how Ushor plans to make this Puja truly inclusive:

👕 Clothing with Dignity: 8,000 Lives, 8,000 New Outfits

In many corners of Bengal, new clothes during Puja remain a luxury. Ushor is bridging this gap by distributing 8,000 new garments to:

  • Children in orphanages and shelters

  • Children with disabilities

  • Children of sex workers

  • Senior citizens in old age homes

  • Families in remote villages across Purulia

Each gift is more than fabric — it’s recognition, celebration, and love wrapped into a single moment.

🏵️ A Day to Remember: Durga Darshan for 200 Orphaned Children

For 200 orphaned children, this year’s Durga Puja will be unforgettable. Ushor will organize:

  • A guided tour of Kolkata’s most iconic pandals

  • Tiffin and lunch from respected restaurants

  • Supervised travel with volunteers and caregivers

  • Interactive cultural sessions and mythological storytelling

For children who have rarely stepped into the heart of Puja celebrations, this initiative offers belonging — a chance to feel seen, valued, and connected.

🥘 Feeding the Forgotten: 500 Meals of Care and Kindness

While the city revels in festive delicacies, Ushor will deliver 500 hygienic food packets to:

  • Daily wage laborers

  • Domestic workers

  • Homeless elderly individuals

  • Street dwellers forgotten by the feast

These meals are crafted not only for nourishment, but for dignity — echoing the core message of community and shared joy.

“This year, we are celebrating Maa Durga not only in idols and rituals but in action — through every hand we hold, every smile we inspire,” said a spokesperson from Ushor. “To Reach the Unreached is not just a slogan. It’s a promise.”
